Why Is Uniform Important Essay

A uniform' is a standard set of clothing people (usually ]) wear when they go to school. It might have a particular color of trousers or skirt, plus a matching shirt and perhaps a jacket or necktie, with matching shoes.

In some countries, like Germany, students can wear anything they like when they go to school. In other countries, like England, there is usually a standard dress code in school, usually a set of dressing for girls and one for boys. Boys and girls need to wear school uniforms when they go to school. In many countries, such as the United States, some schools require wearing a uniform, and some do not.

Originally, school uniforms were introduced to hide the social differences between students, but uniforms can also help with safety. Using standard uniforms can also save the money needed to buy extra clothes as fashion to impress other people at school. Uniforms can reduce the conspicuous consumption of rich people, who get costly items, which show how much more wealth they have than other people.

However, school uniforms can also help with health and safety by having clothes which have been tested to be safer when worn. Some fabrics can cause skin rashes in some people, while a uniform can be made of comfortable fabrics. Also, loose-fitting clothes can get caught in machinery or playground equipment, which limits what activities children can do safely.

There are several types of economicbullying which can be lessened by use of school uniforms. When many students are from families with less money, sometimes students with more money have been called "goody two shoes" because they wore newer shoes, where neither shoe was in poor shape. In schools where more students are rich, poorer students have been insulted for the old-style or tattered clothes they wore.

Some children do not like uniforms because they are being told what to wear.

The childhood days of almost every single human being will invariably have some memories colored by the formal uniforms that are usually worn to the schools. For some individuals, the uniforms persist almost till up to the level of high school whereas, for some, the uniforms often are abandoned at a lower level itself. Nowadays, several schools are eradicating the concept of school uniforms although there are various aspects related to the significance of school uniforms that still hold well even today. The student can be segregated as one of the wards of school with the help of uniform only.
  • Uniforms in schools also instill a sense of pride and dignity in all the students starting from the lower classes to the higher classes. The students get a special recognition due to the school uniforms that make them feel confident and enable them to hold their heads high. They learn to respect the uniform of their school and also earn the responsibility of maintaining the reputation of the school intact with proper activities and discipline as well. This starts growing from the very childhood itself and enhances with age so that this characteristic trait remains throughout the lifetime to go on in the future too.

  • Another very essential advantage of wearing school uniforms is that there is no possibility of peer pressure when it comes to the dresses at least. Every student will be wearing the same school uniform made from the same material irrespective of the income status of the student’s family. Hence, harmony and friendship between the students will be restored and facilitated.
  • When all the children wear school uniform, then there are no chances of distraction and students can concentrate on the school work completely. Moreover, if a student by any chance gets lost somewhere, then the other common people can immediately bring back the student to the school by identifying the uniform he or she is wearing.
